Recycle Skips at the rear of the Co-Op
As a regular visitor to our Parish Council website I have noted they are asking our opinions on the possible relocation of the Recycle Skips currently at the rear of the Corfe Mullen Co-Op.
As this proposal could have an impact on a large number of residents who use the area it would be helpful if you could take a little time and fill in the short survey on the Parish Council website.
It will help the Council make a fair judgment which will reflect the wishes of the majority of the residents of Corfe Mullen.

Corfe Mullen Recycling Banks
Thanks to Dave Wright for bringing to the attention of residents, the possibility of the relocation of the recycling facility behind the library and mentioning the survey on the Parish Council site.
Whilst I can understand the possible need for additional parking spaces here, surely this facility is best placed where it is, for people visiting the Co-op, Village Hall and Library, being able to drop off their recyclables without an extra car journey.
Perhaps the Parish Council should be looking at placing additional facilities around the village to encourage more residents to recycle. For many local people, particularly those who do not have use of a car, the Library car park may seem too far to take the Tetra packs or aluminium foil that are not collected by our kerbside recycle lorries.
After the Christmas period, when our refuse was not collected for slightly longer than normal due to the snow, I was shocked to see how much card packaging and other recyclable items were left at the roadside for collection with the weekly refuse. There were many complaints in the local press about the amount of rubbish building up but did we all recycle as much as we could? I believe that there are many who can't be bothered to fold the card or wash the bottles and jars and who firmly believe that it is their right as tax paying individuals, to throw out every bit of rubbish with no thought to the ever filling landfill sites. Every one who objected to the local site should certainly use all the recycle facilities available to us as a village. Of course, there are also those who simply do not understand how to recycle and are confused at the thought of having to look at the numbers on the plastic containers.
Surely, better local education on the subject and more recycling facilities must be the way forward for Councils to meet their future recycling targets.

Parking vs. Recycling

Good point: it would be silly to relocate the recycling facilities to another site as presently people can combine recycling with another purpose and save an extra journey.
If the village hall needs extra parking spaces, some of the grass area at the front could be sacrificed. Alternatively, how about using that grass area for the recycling bins? Or, more practically, the recycling bins could be moved back a few yards onto a strip of the grass area behind their current position and a new hedge grown. That would be cheap and relieve the parking pressure.
Support for existing recycling location
I visited the Parish Council office the other day to enquire about their recycling survey (it's ended and I missed it!)
I asked about the results and was told there are a number of people who want to keep the recycling facilities where they are now, behind the library.
Apparently I wasn't the only person to suggest ".. the recycling bins could be moved back a few yards onto a strip of the grass area behind their current position..." (see above) as this was said by a number of other too but unfortunately the grass is owned by the EDDC not the Parish Council which complicates things.
I was told no decision has been made yet - there are number of factors to consider.
Recycling Move
I know there is pressure on parking near the Village Hall and Library and people often use the Co-op car park but that's for Co-op shoppers. Maybe people are parking once and shopping as well as going to the Village Hall or Library.
I can see the sense in relocating the recycling area to provide a bit more space and I'd be happy for it to move opposite the Esso garage but not to be removed altogether. If it comes down to a choice between how it is now and having no recycling place here in CM, I think the parking will have to take a back seat.
I was pleased a couple of months ago to see there is now a collection bin for aluminium foil in the recycling area as I'd been collecting it and wondering where it could go.
